Acupuncture

Does it hurt? Patients generally find treatments very relaxing. You may feel a slight tingling sensation or dull ache when the needles are inserted or no sensation at all.

How many treatments will I need? The frequency and length of treatment will vary with each individual. Most people feel an improvement within 5 treatments but with chronic conditions this may take longer.

What should I do before coming for treatment? Please avoid eating large meals and drinking alcohol or coffee before coming for treatment. If possible, wear loose fitting clothes that can be easily rolled up above your elbows and knees. This will make it easier for your practitioner to access the acupuncture points.

Is acupuncture treatment covered by health insurance? This will depend on your insurance company. You will need to contact them to find out whether your plan covers acupuncture. It is always good to check your individual policy details as the number of treatments covered will vary. Likewise, some policies only cover acupuncture if it is performed by a doctor.

Tuina Chinese Massage

What should I expect? Your practitioner will take a short case history and then look at your posture and the range of movement of the affected area. Depending on the condition being treated you will either be asked to sit on a chair or lie on a couch. You will not need to remove any clothing as Tui Na is applied to the clothed body. However, you may want to wear loose, comfortable clothing. The massage in itself can be quite vigorous but patients usually feel very relaxed at the end of the session.

How long does it take? Sessions last between 30 minutes and 1 hour.

How many treatments will I need? This will depend on your individual condition. Acute conditions generally require more frequent treatments (twice a week) over a shorter period of time. Chronic conditions often require treatment over a longer period of time. I usually recommend a course of treatments over 6 weeks after which I will assess your progress.
